Aanii! My name is Sarah McKerracher, and I am Ojibwe from Henvey Inlet First Nation with mixed English heritage. I am creating this bursary to honor my Mother, Mary Contin, who is a survivor of the 60’s Scoop and the daughter of residential school survivors. Taken from her home and family and placed in foster care, her life and our family’s history were deeply impacted by this experience. This bursary is a tribute to my Mother’s sacrifices, resilience, and unwavering support.
Two years ago, I embarked on my journey as a mature student, and the experience was both exciting and invigorating. In my second year, I had the privilege of completing a Social Service Worker student placement with 2-Spirited People of the 1st Nations.
My path as a mature student, while also being a Mother of two, was greatly supported by funding assistance, and it is my hope that this bursary will provide similar support to another Indigenous student pursuing post-secondary education in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
BURSARY AMOUNT $ 1500
